Greyhound race in a different way
If you want to know what greyhound races and kite races have in common, please continue reading and have a look at the photogallery below. You will see untraditional greyhound races performed by the Czech Greyhound Racing Federation. The autumn races were also interesting because the racers were divided according to their color and also there wre kite races.
In this case kiting evidently was not a traditional autumn fun only for children but rather adults enjoyed this acitivity. In fact adults enjoyed kites much longer than kids. "Grandpa stop it already", said grand-daughter of one of the greyhound owners - Mr. Jirout´s. The Kite races caused some members to become small boys at least for a small moment. (see Wikipedia)
Kites & a goat-herd
Greyhound races calles Fall Prix need Fall entertainment, i.e. flying kites, said DJ Dunas, a popluar member of the Czech Greyhound Racing Federation. It needs roasted potatoes in open fire, just like during old times when shepperds used to sit around in the past. DJ Dunas wanted to realize his idea at all costs and he decided to dress himself as a goat-herd( see Wikipedia). When he was asked where he would get a goat he just replied "there are always some.." One never knows how he meantr it, we better did not ask.
Reportage from the race day
Introduction – Greyhound race Fall Prix 2010 On the 6th of Nov 2010 we had everything we needed for the race called Fall Prix and for the extra autumn activities - kiting.
In spite of the fact the forecast promised rain on Saturday we were lucky because the rainfalls came after we left the Praskacka race track and we had fine warm day. Paradoxically we were affraid of the possibility there would not enough strong wind to fly the kites. Well there wind was very strong although higher temperatures could cause windlessness.
Greyhound and kite races The greyhound races were organized according to the color of the racers and the kite races, well they were not organized at all - any kite in the air was a huge success. Greyhound ears, as well as kite tails flied in the wind. Greyhounds were really cute with the kites before and after the races.
Greyhound White Elbony became the winner of the blue-white greyhound team, greyhound lady NewMac Dior was the winner of the black team. However her victory was very close as the second greyhound Sjudraget Lijane was only 0.004 sec slower.
Professional equipment and timing photofinish used for greyhound races It is true that one cannot observe the difference of „fusiček na tloušťku“ . One would not be able to realize who is the winner if we wouldnt have special professional timing equipment that has been installed at Praskacka since its "rebirth"
How was the Sranda-Tip doing?
There was not any winning bettor as nobody was lucky in guessing the correct orders.Only the pretty bookmaker liked the results because nobody reached the "jackpot" of the betting office Sranda-Tip.
Perhaps even kites knew that because it seemed they want to fly into the office to place their bets.
Absolute winner of the greyhound race day Fall Prix 2010
Young greyhound girl Mount Cappucine´s Jamaica, a participant of the Greyhound Schooling Academy can be entitled as the absolute winner of the greyhound race day. Jamaica chased anything that moved. Besides the hare she also caught a kite or two and a finger of her master - she "caught" his heart a long time ago as it is evident he loves Jamaica doting.
Photos from the training greyhound miss Mount Cappucine´s Jamaica will be published in a separate reportage.
Kite races - sparkles in the eyes
After that there were the kites races on the sand track body of the greyhound track Praskacka. Their "handlers" - owners of greyhounds liked kiting very much. Believe or not some of them were so excited they even did not hear announcements that the kite races had been ended. "Grandpa stop it already" begged the grand-daughter of Mr. Jirout. He "raced" his clever homemade kite and it was evident that the kite flied many times. It flied really very good. Nobody was able to force Mr.Zamecnik to end kiting although it was clear that his kite was able to fly for the longest time in the highest altitude and thus it is the absolute winner of the first kite races at the greyhound race track Praskacka. He did not cared about announcements of the organizator, he did not cared about winner decoration, finally he joined us after we announced that his prize will be consumed without him.
Mr. Zamecnik finally received a bottle of Stolichnaya vodka from Mr. Zdenek Greyhound Grondol, the president of the Czech Greyhound Racing Federation. The winner surely enjoyed the winning prize.
kickshaw of the goat-herd upgraded to modern gastronomy
We could not miss the kickshaw of the goat-herd - potatoes roasted in open fire. Unlike the old times we prepared them in securely in the owen in the clubroom of the Greyhound Race Track Praskacka. We did not want to risk because of few potatoes. Mrs. Jarmila prepared and packed the above-mentioned potatoes at home. Besides that she prepared her homemade garlic dressing. Mrs. Ladislava prepared delicious sandwiches and Mrs. Sasha prepared coffee for everyone and we also enjoyed honey ginger-breads that were prepared by Mrs. Jarmila. We all thank to the sponsors of the greyhound races Fall Prix 2010.
Fees, Prize-Money
We did the necessary administration in the warm clubroom, i.e. to pay the starting fees and to pay the prize money.
It is widely known that Mr. Zdenek Greyhound Grondol, the president of the Czech Greyhound Racing Federation and Mr. Rudolf Zelinsky - the CGRF Secretary General - have been trying to financially support owners of racing greyhounds for five years and consequently they put their own finances to the prize money funds so that greyhound owners can be awarded with the prize money each race in accordance with propositions. Everyone likes a little compensation ,let´s say for the fuel. The CGRF memebers voted for a change - instead of purchasing winning cups and other trophys from the starting fees we have the opportunity to gain the money back in the form of prize money which is much more entertaining.
Our play on professional greyhound races is perfect.
Tradition of greyhound races of the Czech Greyhound Racing Federation - Fall Prix
We all had fun there, both greyhounds and their owners. It is more than sure that kite races will become our traditional autumn activity during Fall Prix greyhound races at the new greyhound track in Prague.
Only the goat-herd regreted that he did not have time to dress himself up in his shepperd dress. You may not know that DJ Dunas alias the goat-herd had to leave from his home at 3:30 AM to arrive to the Greyhound Race Track Praskacka with all necessary equipment in time because he has always gone from Moravia to Prague at first (to pick up his collegues) for five years and then he has continued to the Greyhound Race Track Praskacka. And vice versa.
The goat-herd is looking forward to enjoy his dress, his favorite goats and roasted potatoes next time. In Prague already. DJ Dunas will have his way to greyhound races and goats far shorter.
Final coclusion:
Final coclusion:
We dare to state that we are experts in the field of greyhound races but we had to study new knowledge in the field of kiting and we will use our newly gained skills next time. Kites with long tails appeared to fly more disciplined compared with the ones without tails. Tailless kites were uselessly and crazily rotating in the wind. We even were unable to take pictures of them. Dj Dunas evaluated the newly gained skills and stated that it was evident that one without tail is useless.
Well - next time see you at the greyhound races Fall Prix 2011 in Prague.
